I personally enjoy coiling by hand, though if I am going to begin a project that entails a lot of coiling, I use the wire winder. It's a time saver and also gentle on my wrists!
Not only does this wire winder make perfect coils, I use it to also make twisted wire and when coiling half-round wire, this system makes it a breeze. I have had my wire winder for several years and it was the best investment.
I also bring it with me to class when I am teaching a wire design that demands a lot of coiling. It allows me to teach a project that would take several hours to complete in just a few hours.
It is manufactured by Ray Grossman. It can be mounted to your work bench. This high quality winder is extremely durable and it comes with a chuck key and three round mandrels 3-3/4" long - the mandrels are .094, .141, and .234 inches in diameter.
